N.S.E.C. NEWSLETTER - February 2010

SHOW DATE CHANGE
Due to the date conflicting with the Winter Olympics we will be changing our next show to March 13th and the April show date will be changed as well. You may enter the show by downloading the form here, completing it and handing it in at the office.

TEMPORARY LESSON TIME CHANGES
During the Winter Olympics parents and students should plan to spend longer getting to the stables because of heavy traffic and detours. Therefore we will be starting all 4:00 or later lessons 15 minutes later than regularly scheduled – Weekdays from February12th through 26th. Weekend lesson times will not be effected.

WELCOMING TO NSEC
Katie Blore and her horse Liam, Bailey Faragher with her new lease horse Prince, and of course Juidam Laura Kinvig's new horse.

GAMBLER'S CLAIM TO FAME
Every year in November many German people celebrate a very old tradition called St. Martin's Festival. A rider on a horse, symbolizing the St. Martin leads a procession with children, singing songs while carrying lanterns. The most famous legend about his life is when he cut his cloak in half to share with a beggar to save him from dying of the cold. The St. Martin's Day reminds us how important it is to share with others and show compassion. On November 10, Gambler led the lantern procession with the German students and their families following him. The scene with the beggar where St. Martin, as Lara Estlin, cut the cloak in half was re enacted and made it very special to all the families that attended. The festival finished off with a hot chocolate and a "Weckmann" for everybody, a typical pastry that people eat during that time. A big thank you to Denise again for her help in making this a wonderful event. (Article contributed by the Estlin family).

LESSONS HAVE RING PRIORITY
What does this mean? Simply that whatever the students are doing in the ring has priority. So the coach may ask other riders to yield to the students by, for example, riding on the rail, riding off of the rail, keeping away from the students or perhaps by using one end of the arena only. The rings are open to riders to share with lessons, provided that they abide by the coaches instructions. In some cases if the coach feels that a rider is not able to ride safely with the lesson students she may ask the rider/s to use another ring or wait until the lesson is over. If you are uncertain about how you should conduct yourself when sharing the ring with a lesson, please ask the coach. Do not assume that you are unwelcome to share the ring.

GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS
What does it take to get you to stop flushing feminine articles down the toilets? In December we twice had to have articles removed from the plumping after they jammed the sump pump. The cost was another $1000.00! So PLEASE put feminine articles and trash in the bins provided in the washrooms.

DANCE AND PRANCE ANYONE?
Another improvement completed – may we presume that you are all enjoying the footing in the indoor made even nicer by the addition of new sand and Lightfoot felt footing?

Enjoy your riding! ~ Denise Kinvig 604-988-5131 or info@WeCreateRiders.com
